Hello everyone, it has been a long time since I have uploaded a blog. It is difficult juggling multiple things as a 20-year-old college student, but that doesn't matter what matters is todays post:

Monkeypox is a gay disease!

FALSE!

According to the CDC, monkeypox is caused by the infection of monkeypox viruses, which is a part of the family of vir such as a common one known smallpox.

How does Monkeypox spread?

Close physical contact with an individual carrying the virus (more prone to transmitting if they have a rash, scabs, or bodily fluids)

  • Touching items that an individual who has the virus has touched (specifically absorbent items such as clothing, bedding and surfaces that have not been properly disinfected)

  • Taking in respiratory secretions.

Intimate contact such as:

  • Any oral or physical sex with an individual with monkeypox.

  • Physical intimacy like cuddling, hugging, and kissing.

  • Touching objects or fabrics used touched/used by the person using monkeypox.

Animals:

  • Getting scratched by an animal who has the virus

  • Getting bit by an animal who has the virus

  • Preparing/eating meat/products by an animal who had the virus

"A person with monkeypox can spread it to others from the time symptoms start until the rash has fully healed and a fresh layer of skin has formed. The illness typically lasts 2-4 weeks" (CDC)

What measures can I take? According to the CDC:

  • Avoid close contact

  • Avoid skin-to-skin contact

  • Avoid using items that the person who has the virus used.

  • Wash hands often

  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer as often as you can

  • If you go to an enclosed place like a concert, try to be fully clothed and wear a mask!

  • Disinfect your home and any items you use a lot with EPA approved products
